Criteria Application Hierarchy

Top  Previous  Next

Off the 7 criteria categories, SANames, SADomains, SAWanted, Private and Public are applied to both incoming and outgoing mail.

Wanted is applied only to incoming traffic and New is applied only to outgoing mail.

SANames criteria are always applied first so that communication between a mailbox user and their SysAdmin or SysSuper  always is "wanted".

Mail which matches SANames criteria is processed as specified by the SysAdmin or SysSuper and not subjected to further filtering.

Next, If a SysAdmin is assigned for a mailbox, the SADomains and SAWanted criteria from the SysAdmin's  Preference Set are applied to the mail.

If incoming mail has not yet been classified, Private, Wanted and Public are applied in that order to classify the mail.

If outgoing mail has not yet been classified, Private, Public and New are applied in that order to classify the mail.

If an e-mail is classified as "wanted" ,  the EPA Mail Clerk remembers the category and item/row number of the criteria which was satisfied.

If an e-mail is classified as "unwanted", there is no single associated category and item/row.

The range and specifics of post-classification actions by the Mail Clerk are defined by the EPA licensee's implementation.
