Welcome to the System Administrator of this domain's EPA Mailroom.
Where there's now only an empty area, there will soon be a complete facility actively processing your e-mail traffic 24/7 with a minimum of effort on your part.
All of this manual uses a normal postal mailroom operating model - adapted to the e-mail paradigm - as a its' context. Emphasis is placed on operations on traffic while the e-mail is in the domain and mailroom. The well-documented Internet hardware mechanisms and software processes that deliver mail into and transmit it out of the mailroom are largely ignored.
To assist you in managing the Mailroom, you'll have two employees who - between them - know how to perform all of the tasks that are necessary to proper functioning of the facility: o The EPA Mail Clerk who integrates server-side host system and EPA processes and client-side processes into the Mailroom's into the work flow. o The EPA Window Clerk who works client-side to interface users to the Mail Clerk operations and resources.
This manual will serve you as a ready reference to acquaint you with all of the capabilities, resources and facilities these two will provide for your use.
Chapters "Key Concepts" and "EPA SysAdmin Crash Course" provide you with the information needed to install and operate EPA in your domain.
The other chapters provide you with in-depth background detailed information about EPA and the installation process. These chapters are still undergoing final editing and will be released in the near future.
Much of the information presented herein - especially with respect to operational reports and auditing - is addressed in greater detail on the EPA website and EPAmail Service User's Manual.
