EPA Mail Clerk  Installation

Top  Previous  Next

At a minimum, the installation of the EPA Mail Clerk requires:

o  Installation of the EPA Software Library

o  Linkage to the host system's Mail Transfer Agent(s)

o  Scheduling of the EPA Archiving Task.

o  EPA linkage. with hosts startup

The EPA Software Library contains:
o  The EPA Mail Clerk Nucleus

       o  EPA MTA Interfaces

o  A downloadable EPA Window Clerk

o  The EPA Data Archives Skeleton

o  Shell jobs that support EPA processes.

Linkage to the host system's MTA varies according to the host e-mail system software and the EPA Licensee's implementation of the function.  (Linkage with the Nucleus is transparent to the host system,)

The EPA Archiving Task is responsible for collecting data generated by EPA operations at fixed intervals and arranging for preservation of the data.  Again, the properties of these operations and specification thereof are determined by the EPA Licensee.

The EPA Mail Clerk processes must be activated at host system startup after the MTA has been started.  Normally, this is accomplished by inserting a link to the appropriate EPA shell job.

The following chapters provide details of these operations for each operating system.
