Mailroom Properties

Top  Previous  Next

An EPA Mailroom has 5 basic properties which you will specifiy as the first step of construction:

Owned & Operated By:: Organization or Individual or ISP/ESP.

a.  Choose Individual if you

       - Operate the domain personally without restrictions of any sort.

       - Do not lease domain mailboxes to 3rd parties.

       - Are not legally restricted from monitoring traffic in all domain mailboxes.

b.  Choose ISP/ESP if :

       - Your domain contains only mailboxes leased to 3rd parties

       - Mailbox lessees may elect not to use EPA management services.

       - A SysSuper administers the domain - not a SysAdmin.

c.  Otherwise, choose Organization

SysAdmin Employed?  Yes or No

Choose Yes only if you are Organization-owned-and-operated and intend to always employ at least one SysAdmin.

You will not be permitted to choose Yes if you are ISP/ESP-owned-and-operated.

Default Preference Set?  Yes or No

Choose Yes if you want every actual domain mailbox to be EPA-managed under  an associated EPA Preference Set and no mailboxes to be exempted from such management.

Actual mailboxes' traffic will be processed according the Preference Set having the same UserName as the actual mailbox.  Actual domain mailboxes that have no associated Preference Set will be processed according to the Domain Default Preference Set.

If you choose Yes, you'll need to supply a UserName for the Default Preference Set.  The UserName supplied must not duplicate that of an existing actual domain mailbox.

If you choose No, actual domain mailboxes that have no associated Preference Set will be exempt from EPA management.

You will not be permitted to choose Yes if you are ISP/ESP-owned-and-operated.

Number of Preference Set Columns? [  ?  ]

Allows you to specify whether the "List" or the "Table" format will be used by defining the number of columns in every Preference Set in the mailroom.

Specifying "1" defines the List Form and specifying "2" thru "9"  defines the "Table" format. If you specify 1, your choice will be reset to "List" ( a 1-column table).

Your selection here makes no difference to basic EPA operations - which are solely dependent on Column 1/List entry content. However, other system software which 'plugs into' the EPA process requires additional information.

If you are not using such software at the time of installation, select 'Table" and "3" columns to allow for future software acquisitions.

Mailroom RAID-Mirrored?  Yes or No

Choose Yes if your mail server hardware includes RAID array hardware so that your primary hard disk's content is continually duplicated during operations.

With such mirroring, Mailroom Checkpoint and Mailroom Restore is accomplished with minimal additional system overhead.
