Domain Default Preference Set ('DDPS')

Domain owners that supply e-mail services to independent clients are precluded from exercising any EPA-based control over a Client-Adminstered Mailbox ('CAM') by the terms of their EPA Licensing Agreement. Installation of a domain DDPS is specifically prohibited where one or more CAMs exist in the domain.

A DDPS contains a full EPA Preference Set which records both 1.) System/E-mail Adminstrators' preferences (SANames, SAWanted, SADomains & New) and 2.) Mailbox User Preferences (Private, Wanted & Public).

The DDPS provides the mechanism to administer two or more Owner-Administered Mailboxes ('OAM's) with a single Preference Set. Any number of domains - each with a DDPS - may exist in a single HMS. Any server-resident domain may or may not have a DDPS.

Only a domain's System/E-mail Adminstrator(s) can create or modify the domain's DDPS.

When the EPA Mail Clerk processes mail, the UserName is extracted from the TO:/FROM: field of incoming/outbound mail for use in accessing the appropriate Preference Set. If there exists a Preference Set with the extracted UserName, it will be applied to the mail. Otherwise, the DDPS will be applied to the mail.

NOTE: A DDPS Public preference UserName entry will never be recognized if a Preference Set for the UserName exists.

Domain APS Preference Sets allow an authorized mailbox user to create a Set consisting of the following combinations of user-defined and DDPS-defined source preference criteria:

  • APS-1: User's Private & Wanted w/ DDPS's Public, New, SAWanted, SADomains & SANames
  • APS-2: User's Private, Wanted & Public w/ DDPS's New, SAWanted, SADomains & SANames
  • APS-3: User's Private, Wanted, Public & New w/ DDPS's SAWanted, SADomains & SANames
  • APS-4: User's Private, Wanted, Public, New, SAWanted & SADomains w/ DDPS's SANames

In APS Set combinations, the DDPS criteria may used exclusively, merged with Users's criteria or ignored for each Preference Category.

EPA's filtering sequence is independent of the composition and source(s) of the resultant Preference Set.
