The classification sequencing employed by the EPA Mail Clerk is dependent upon the type of the mailbox associated with the e-mail being classified, the type of the operational domain and whether the mail is being processed for delivery or transmission.
The Mail Clerk extracts the addressee's/sender's UserName from every e-mail received-into/sent-from an EPA domain. The Mail Clerk then attempts to find an identically-named Preferences Set on file which can be applied to process the e-mail.
If an identically-named Set cannot be found, the Mail Clerk determines whether the UserName belongs to a Group defined in the domain. If so, the Group's Preferences Set will be applied.
Failing the above, the Mail Clerk will apply the Default Preferences Set (if present).
If no Default Preferences Set is present, the EPA Mail Clark performs no further processing of the e-mail.
