DEFAULT PREFERENCE SET
Each time the EPA Mail Clerk begins processing an e-mail, the Mail Clerk first identifies the domain UserName related
to it.
If the e-mail is arriving from the Internet for reception processing, it"s the UserName contained in the "envelope-TO:" field.
If the e-mail is originating from the domain LAN or another domain-local source for Internet or intranet transmission, it"s the
UserName contained in the "envelope-FROM:" field.
Having identified the relevant UserName, the Mail Clerk attempts to retrieve an identically-named Preference Set. If the
attempt succeeds, the retrieved Preference Set will be applied to process the e-mail.
If no identically-named Set can be retrieved, the Mail Clerk attempts to retrieve a Default Preference Set. If the
attempt succeeds, the retrieved Preference Set will be applied to process the e-mail.
If neither Preference Set retrieval attempt is successful, the Mail Clerk performs no EPA processing of the e-mail.
Consequently,
- Any number of UserNames' e-mail can be controlled with a single, predefined, universally-applied Preference Set.
- Any number of uniquely-named Preference Sets can co-exist with a Default Preference Set.
- If no Default Preference Set is defined, any number of domain mailboxes can be exempted from EPA processing .
- The System/E-mail Administrator of an organizational domain can administer and control all or a majority of domain mailboxes
with a single Default Preference Set.
- A domain owned by an ISP or ESP can offer EPA as an optional service. (Not every account/UserName need have an associated
EPA Preference Set.)
